I was viewing various screens in RTKnet, I noticed that the data stopped streaming from SCMS and CAT2. I never selected "reset receivers" or anything like that. This morning we visited SCMS and the baud rate was indeed set to 300. That site is fixed. But not CAT2 which is located in a remote area on Catalina Island. I decided to shutdown GPSnet because I cannot risk this problem happening again. We have seen in the past that when GPSnet is initialized, every so often the baud rate at an OCRTN site will get reset from 56,700 to 300 bps. This stops the flow of data and the only way to reset the baud rate is to visit the site and manually set it. This has been reported to Trimble numerous times but they've never admitted that it's their software doing this. |

The maintenance guy, Sean, I went around with checking out the various power panels, couldn't find the right circuit. They said they would call an electrician the next day to fix it. It seems that A/C power has not been restored (and hence the batteries are dead) to the proper circuit. To get an update on what's going on, call the Facilities Manager at 951-659-6062. I am at Hinds at this time, I found that the phone line was good, it was your equipment that was keeping the circuit off hook (busy). I cycled the power on the GPS enclosure, this cured the off hook condition, I noticed that the enclosure is making a fairly loud noise. If there is a fan or AC unit in the enclosure it may be about to burn the bearings.

It is likely that the station has been severely damaged or destroyed by a wildfire. 07/07/2003: The ISLK site survived the Lake Isabella fire. The seismic network has a station in the same place, and one of their technicians inspected the area and reports that our monument (including dome) appears undamaged. The receiver and auxiliary equipment were inside a concrete bunker that survived the fire; a wooden structure on top of the bunker was completely destroyed. Power and phone lines were also completely destroyed, so ISLK will be offline for awhile. |
