Central Valley Spatial Reference Network (CVSRN)
CSRC is working to develop a precise real-time Global Positioning System (GPS) network in California's Central Valley with the California Department of Transportation's (Caltrans) Central Region based in Fresno. Caltrans is seeking to improve the quality and efficiency of its surveying operations, including construction staking, right of way monumentation/recovery, geodetic control, design surveys for topographical mapping, land net recovery and coordination, and flight panel layout and coordination. The pilot network consists of 14 continuous GPS stations providing real-time geodetic quality positioning capability. Caltrans estimates total cost recovery within 10 months of operation of the CVSRN, and intends to expand the network throughout the Central Valley. The real-time network will also provide precise spatial information for a diverse user community including public works, geographic information systems, safety services, public utilities, airport navigation (LAAS), precision agriculture, machine guidance, education, and intelligent transportation. Success in this endeavor will lead to additional efforts within Caltrans. CVSRN also contributes to the statewide California Real Time Network (CRTN) operated by Scripps.
