SOPAC Data By Date Browser Documentation
This utility lists all data available for the single day and data type provided by the user. Select a data type, day and year (if you do not know the day of year for the month/day you are looking for, click on the "Convert Date Utility" link). Click on 'Show Data' to see a listing of files for the day/data type selected. Then select a file for viewing/download.

Please note that for data types "gfiles", "hfiles", "products" and "combinations", the day/year selected is converted to a GPS week and all files for that week/data type are displayed.

SOPAC archives RINEX observation (rinex/obs), navigation (nav), meteorological (met), and raw continuous GPS data from arrays around the world.

In addition, SOPAC provides several GPS satellite orbit files and associated products. The "products" selection includes (note: YYYY=year, DDD=day-of-year, WWWW=gps weeek, D=day-of-week, Y=year in decade, HH=hour-of-day):

  • sp3 precise ephemeris orbits in sp3 format (e.g., sioWWWWD.sp3.Z)
  • earth orientation files (e.g., sioWWWWD.erp.Z)
  • sinex files (e.g., sioWWWWD.snx.Z
  • analysis summary files (e.g., sioWWWW7.sum.Z)
  • clock files derived by a variety of analysis centers

Orbits are available from IGS and all IGS analysis centers (sio, jpl, cod, ngs, emr, usn, cod and gfz). Filenaming conventions use the following, where 'xx' represents the first two letters of the IGS analysis center:

  • xxo: final orbits, available within 10 days after the end of the UT day (e.g., sioWWWWD.sp3.Z)
  • xxr: rapid orbits, available after 17 hours (e.g., sirWWWWD.sp3.Z)
  • xxu: ultra-rapid orbits, provided every three hours (e.g., siuWWWD_HH.sp3.Z)

The "gfiles" selection lists gfiles (e.g., gpggaY.DDD.Z), which are orbit files that can only be used in GAMIT GPS data processing.

The "hfiles" selection lists the official GAMIT solution exchange file(s). This contains coordinates, orbits and the full variance-covariance matrix. It can be used as pseudo-observations into the GLOBK package.

If you are having problems downloading files, and you're using Internet Explorer, you may need to change the settings on your browser. In particular, if you are receiving this error message:

"Internet Explorer was not able to to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

you will need to change your browser settings. This occurs because the SOPAC data browser utility obtains data from the SOPAC ftp server at garner.ucsd.edu. This server requires users to login as "anonymous", with an e-mail password that includes the "@" symbol.

Some versions of Internet Explorer, under certain Microsoft operating systems, do not set the default login name and password to the above. To change this:

    1. Enter ftp://garner.ucsd.edu as the url location. This changes the browser to an ftp-specific version.
    2. Select File->Login As
    3. Click the "Login Anonymously" option
    4. Enter your e-mail address as the password
    5. You may need to exit, and re-enter Internet Explorer.
You will now be able to access our files via the ftp or http versions of Internet Explorer.

Another option is to install an ftp service on your PC such as CuteFTP, or to use ftp from a DOS window if available.

Please contact the SOPAC webmaster if problems persist.
